Internet of Things (IOT) Solutions


We’ve rapidly reached a point where even the simplest devices have significant connectivity requirements. With this connectivity comes the need to support a great number of technologies for I/O, communication protocols, remote update, and business logic building blocks across a huge spectrum of hardware platforms.

Internet of Things and the Connected Devices

IOT can create new market opportunities while providing a competitive advantage for all enterprises, regardless of the role they play within the IOT value chain or the industry they’re in.

This will increasingly require enabling new services that span edge devices and enterprise applications.

The necessary element to enable these new services is intelligent devices.

These devices need to be able to connect to a variety of sensors and back to the data center. They need to be able to perform multiple functions/ run multiple applications.

Of course deploying intelligent devices is not all that is needed for new IOT services, the devices as well will produce large volumes of data that needs to be processed and turned into insights for decision making. Enterprises will need to reduce time to decision-making and time to action – these drive quality of service and competitive advantage.

Enable IOT Services

Our Conclusion, devices is not all that is needed to enable IOT services but they are a critical element – may become a bottleneck of the entire solution or a value-generating application platform.

Device layer, at the bottom, is the main source of data. It includes sensing/edge devices, which sense the surrounding environment and transmit data in regular intervals. These sensors, in turn, may interact with an intelligent gateway. Gateway provides data aggregator and in few cases device level data processing capabilities. Data is funneled through a communication service provider network.

Service Providers could either play the role of the network provider or could move up the value chain to offer IOT infrastructure services. This layer would enable seamless connectivity with different M2M devices (akin to data services in SOA) and offer the ability to remotely monitor and manage them for device connectivity.

IOT services layer is completed agnostic of underlying devices, communication protocols and connectivity semantics. This layer would include core set of services to build IOT applications (i.e. composite applications)
